The Fast Times

What’s Happening on the Weekend of October 13 + 14?

Pirini Motorcycle Park
One of these highlights from the coming weekend will definitely keep you busy, whether it sees you in the saddle, at the bunting, or on the couch.

The Weekend

Pirini Motorbike Park Ride Day

Each and every weekend, on alternating Saturdays and Sundays, Pirini Motorbike Park opens its track and trails to those who ride. This weekend, it’s the Sunday, October 14. The weather is looking perfect, so head down, over, or up to Pongakawa – just do what you’ve got to do.

Those in the know will be returning for another ride. For those who don’t, you can be sure you’ll have an epic day on the bike, no matter if you prefer the track or the trails.

This weekend, The Fast Times won’t be there. But, like always, snap a photo of “The Maverick” logo that’s pasted on the cabin, tag us on Instagram, and we’ll send you one. The first person to do so was Broxy, but he’s always been pretty quick.

The Radventure

Ben Townley Tours

OK, you got us: this particular “radventure” isn’t taking place on this weekend. It’s more of a heads-up to plan one for an upcoming weekend, because it’s never too early to start planning more rad times, is it? Especially with summer on its way.

Back in November of 2017, we reported that Ben Townley had been seen on a KTM (and we were reprimanded for it by the champ, no less), the brand of bike that he rode to a world title in 2004. You can ride one, too, and right alongside the 101 of Townley. That’s ’cause BT launched Ben Townley Tours, a dirt bike tour company that has a simple mission statement: to offer riders from around the globe an opportunity to ride some of the best motocross tracks and cross country trails this planet has to offer.

Depending on the package you choose, almost everything – outside of your flights – is covered. That’s accomodation, logistics, tracks fees, and, of course, bike rentals. So, does that sounds like a bit of you?

The Race

2018 Monster Energy Cup

Alright, here we are, at the beginning of the racing season. Now, the Monster Energy Cup is actually the end of a long, long season of racing in the Northern Hemisphere. But, here in Aotearoa, the Sunday – not the Saturday – kinda signals the start of our racing season, with the following weekend seeing MX Fest taking place at Digger McEwen Motocross Park.

But, you know, that’s next weekend. First, the who’s who of supercross will be sending it in Vegas. All because a cool million bucks is up for grabs to whoever wins all three main events.

It won’t be easy, especially when you consider the talent that will be on the gate. From Eli Tomac to Marvin Musquin and Jason Anderson, there will be some seriously fast dudes looking to mix it up for the purse. We also have word that a previous winner of the “Monster Million” will be on the gate… but we’ve probably already said too much.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.
