The Fast Times

What’s Happening on the Weekend of September 29 + 30?

The Weekend
One of these highlights from the coming weekend will definitely keep you busy, whether it sees you in the saddle, at the bunting, or on the couch.

The Weekend

Burt Farm Richie Ebbett Memorial Ride

When it comes to riding in the Bay of Plenty, the Burt Farm is one of the first choices for locals, whether it’s racin’ or ridin’. That’s ’cause the place is just so much fun to ride.

This Saturday is even more special. That’s cause the Burt Brothers – and those who knew and loved him – will be celebrating the life of Richie Ebbett. If you knew Richie, well, you’ll know why. If you didn’t, just trust us that the world is worse off for not having him in it.

Now, go pay your respects to the man by shredding the Burt Farm Richie Ebbett Memorial Ride… there’s no doubt he would’ve loved that.

The Radventure

Ben Townley Tours

OK, you got us: this “radventure” isn’t taking place on this weekend. It’s more of a heads-up to plan one for an upcoming weekend, because it’s never too early to start planning more rad times, is it? Especially with summer on its way.

Back in November of 2017, we reported that Ben Townley had been seen on a KTM (and we were reprimanded for it by the champ, no less), the brand of bike that he rode to a world title in 2004. You can ride one, too, and right alongside the 101 of Townley. That’s ’cause BT launched Ben Townley Tours, a dirt bike tour company that has a simple mission statement: to offer riders from around the globe an opportunity to ride some of the best motocross tracks and cross country trails this planet has to offer.

Depending on the package you choose, almost everything – outside of your flights – is covered. That’s accomodation, logistics, tracks fees, and, of course, bike rentals. So, does that sounds like a bit of you?

The Race

NZ VMX Series

Yeah, we know there’s more to the vintage motocross scene than the 1973 Honda CR250M “Elsinore”. In fact, in every single one of the 11 classes that make up the NZ VMX Series, there are plenty of bikes that are considered iconic. You can see that for yourself, too, by heading to Feilding for the second round of the new season.

From Classic (motos from 1970 to ’74), to Evo (’78 to ’81), and even Enduro, there are a whole lot of classes. While there are always the guns, who are racing some seriously fast weapons (and even the odd “works” bike), the VMX scene is all about having fun.

The series is being supported by Rock Oil, New Zealand Natural Clothing, Flying W MotosportsDarryl August Motorcycles, and Paul Ireland Digger Hire. But each event still needs your support, too. You can do that in the way of lining up on the gate, or on the bunting, supporting the racers and the organisers.
