The Fast Times

What’s Happening on the Weekend of August 25 + 26?

One of these highlights from the coming weekend will definitely keep you busy, whether it sees you in the saddle, at the bunting, or on the couch.

The Weekend

Pirini Motorbike Park Ride Day

Each and every weekend, on alternating Saturdays and Sundays, Pirini Motorbike Park opens its track and trails to those who ride. This weekend, it’s the Sunday, August 26. The weather is looking perfect, so head down, over, or up to Pongakawa.

Those in the know will be returning for another ride. For those who don’t, you can be sure you’ll have an epic day on the bike, no matter if you prefer the track or the trails – and you’ll return for more, too.

Like always, if you see The Fast Times there, make sure to come grab a decal. If you don’t see us, snap a photo of “The Maverick” logo that’s pasted on the cabin, tag us on Instagram, and we’ll send you one. The first person to do so was Broxy, but he’s always been pretty quick.

The Radventure

NZ Xtreme Off Road Championship

NZ Xtreme Off Road Championship

Hmm… have you noticed the increase in wind, rain and cooler temperatures? Yeah, you have. That’s ’cause winter has finally arrived. Those racers that bang ‘bars in the bush have, too. Unlike so many riders who wait for clear skies and groomed trails, the expert enduro racers – and a lot of “weekend warriors” – go, like, race, despite conditions than can be less than ideal. But, you know, that’s the heart and soul of enduro.

Although, the weather in Whangamata – and the first round of the “Hard Enduro” series – is looking sweet as. But racers will never know what the Taungatara Forest has hidden under the canopy until they’re in the mix. It’s not called a hard enduro for nothing, either. This round is the first of four, with the following stops taking the hard bastards to Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and Christchurch.

If dodging trees, railing ruts and a bit of pushing isn’t for you, but you still enjoy the scene, make sure you head down to support the local club and those shredders out there having fun. Remember, it makes all the difference.

The Reception

2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship

Alright, here we are: the end of the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

For a couple of riders, it’s been a war of attrition – and it still is, too, ’cause it’s not over – and that makes for good racing. With one round to go, and two motos, it’s down to either Eli Tomac or Marvin Musquin to take the title in the premier class. While the championship comes down to those two, there will be some spoilers coming in for race wins, too, such as Ken Roczen.

For Kiwis, the most important question is, will Cody Cooper finish in the top ten? If we were to bet on it, we’d say yes.

Go get it, “Coops”…
