The Fast Times

The Hikutaia School Trail Ride is 40 Kilometres of Good Times

It’s time to pack up the kids, the bikes, the gear bag and the chilly bin, 'cause the Hikutaia School Trail Ride is all set for Sunday.

Sure, the summer season of riding has come to an end. But, as is the case with autumn and winter in Aotearoa, there are more and more opportunities coming up to ride your dirt bike. That includes the Hikutaia School Trail Ride, a stalwart of the trail riding calendar in the Waikato, taking place on Sunday, March 11.

If you’re like a lot of Kiwis, chances are you haven’t been able to ride all that much over the summer months. It’s understandable, as there are a lot more distractions to keep you from your moto. So, if that’s the case, it could be a good idea to use the Hikutaia School Trail Ride as a way to blow out the cobwebs.

It’s a good year to do that, too, since the Hikutaia School Trail Ride will be better than ever. As the title states, there will be 40 kilometres of trails to rip, taking riders across eight different farms. For those who aren’t as confident, or have younger riders in tow, there are shortcuts back to the pits, as well as a loop specifically for juniors. At this event, even the youngest of moto groms are catered for, with a dedicated peewee track to keep those rippers revving.

Remember, it pays to support these rides, as it helps keeps the local scenes alive. Plus, the people behind the events, whether it’s the local clubs, businesses and individuals, like to see people make the most of the hard work that’s put in.

The organisers are putting in the final touches to the trails, ready for Sunday, so we’ll see you there. If you see us, or “Whytey” on his Whyteline Kawasaki KX450F, make sure to come grab some decals.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.
