The Fast Times

What’s Happening on the Weekend of January 13 + 14?

One of these highlights from the coming weekend will definitely keep you busy, whether it sees you in the saddle, at the bunting, or on the couch.

The Ride

Burt Farm Trail Ride

This Saturday marks the first Burt Farm Trail Ride for 2018, but the trails will be as good as ever, which means you need to load up and head over to Matata for a skid.

If you haven’t ridden the place before, you can take our word for it: you’ll have an epic time. But those locals (and riders that have been introduced to the trails by those kind enough to share the love) will know it’s always worth the trip. The trails are regularly changed up, and always groomed, so it’s suitable for riders of all ages and skill levels. The main loop is 20 clicks long, which doesn’t get boring. But there is a shortcut home for those riders that need it.

Remember, it’s summer, so go enjoy that sunshine.

Yes, Wheels 4 Cure Kids is back for 2018, and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever. The event, held in the carpark of Fraser Cove Shopping Centre in Tauranga, features an all-star line-up of riders that includes the likes of Levi Sherwood, Jed Mildon, Paul Langlands, Jaden Leeming and The Fast Times‘ very own Nick Franklin.

So, for a gold coin donation, you’ll get to see some of the world’s best FMX and BMX riders going huge on the ramps. For 2018, Sherwood will perform a world-first on the ramps, which we know is going to be huge.

Best of all, you’ll be supporting Cure Kids, a worthy charity that helps those who need it most.

The Reception

2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross

If you were to have placed a bet on who was the favourite to take the opening round of the 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, well, most – if not all – would have picked Marvin Musquin. That’s because the superstar came into 2018 with a serious amount of momentum, having won every major off-season supercross race around the world, which seems to have done the trick.

But there’s 16 more races, where he’ll be banging ‘bars with the racers that make up a field with a depth of talent rarely seen in motorcycle racing. So, the question is, can Musquin keep that momentum going to take another win in Houston, Texas? We’ll know in a few days. But the “Flyin’ Frenchman” has proven he has a cool head, some fine race craft, and a great work ethic – all reminiscent of his former Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Ryan Dungey – that seems to be working.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.
